How Brightly compiles, checks and corrects tuition centre listings

Brightly is a directory of tuition centres in Singapore. This page explains where listing information comes from, what Brightly has and has not checked, how results are ordered, and how parents and centres can ask for a correction.

The directory at a glance

These figures are counted from the live directory each time this page loads. They describe how complete the records are, not how good any centre is.

Gaps are left as gaps. Brightly does not fill a missing address, fee, schedule or website with an estimate.

What Brightly is and is not

Brightly lists tuition centres so that parents can compare subjects, locations, published fees and schedules in one place, then contact a centre directly. Brightly does not operate the listed centres, employ their teachers or set their fees.

Brightly is an independent intermediary. Unless a listing says the centre has confirmed it, the centre has not claimed or verified the listing. When a parent sends an enquiry, Brightly contacts the centre on the parent’s behalf and updates the parent within two working days. An enquiry is not a confirmed booking, trial, price or place.

A listing is a record that a centre exists and what has been published about it. It is not a recommendation, an accreditation or a statement about teaching quality or exam results. Brightly does not name any centre as the “best”.

Where listing information comes from

  • The centre’s own published material. Where a centre has an official website, it is the main reference for the centre’s description, programmes and branches.
  • Public business and directory listings. These are used to find centres, to cross-check a name, address or branch, and as a source for some published fees, schedules and ratings.
  • Information submitted by the centre. Centre owners can claim a listing and send Brightly updated details for review.
  • Official Singapore geographic data. Planning-area assignments use government datasets, described under Locations and town pages.

Demonstration records used to test the website are kept separate from real centres. They are excluded from the directory, guides, town pages and sitemaps.

What a verification label means

Being published and being verified are different things. Most listings are published without a verification label, which means the record was researched but Brightly has not yet completed a documented check of its details against a source.

StatusMeaningShown publicly?
No labelResearched and published; no documented check completed yet.No label is shown.
Source-checkedThe recorded details were compared with a named source on a recorded date.Yes. The profile shows the date of the check.
Centre-confirmedThe centre confirmed the recorded details to Brightly on a recorded date.Yes. The profile shows the date of the check.
Disputed or retiredThe record is contested or the centre is no longer operating. The listing is withdrawn from the directory while it is resolved.

A label refers only to the listing details on the date shown. It is never a guarantee of teaching quality, availability, results or present-day fees.

When a recorded fact is changed through Brightly’s controlled update process, the previous value, the new value, the source and the date checked are kept in an internal change log. That log currently holds 1,641 field-level entries across 74 reviewed batches.

Fees

The fee shown on a listing is the figure recorded from the centre’s published material, or from a public listing, at the time the record was researched. It may not include registration, material or deposit charges, and it may have changed since.

Fee summaries on Brightly’s guides use only listings whose fee is stated as a single dollar amount or a dollar range per lesson. Blank, monthly, per-term and ambiguous fees are left out rather than converted. Each summary states how many listings it is based on. These are observations from the directory, not quotations and not a market average.

See the primary tuition fee guide for the current figures and sample size, or the primary tuition price index for a dated breakdown by region, town and subject.

Schedules

A class schedule appears only where one is on record for that centre. Timetables change by term, level and branch, so a schedule on Brightly is a starting point for a conversation with the centre, not a confirmed vacancy.

Locations and town pages

A centre is assigned to a town only when its exact six-digit postal code can be matched to official building data and that building falls inside one official planning-area boundary. Addresses that are missing, ambiguous or unmatched are left unassigned rather than guessed.

A town page is published only while at least five centres are assigned to that planning area, and a subject-in-town page only while at least five of those centres are linked to that primary subject. Pages that fall below five are withdrawn automatically.

Brightly does not publish walking or travel times. For centres with a checked building location, it records the nearest MRT or LRT station only when a station exit is within 500 metres in a straight line, and leaves the rest without a station. See tuition centres near MRT stations.

Ratings and reviews

The star rating and review count on a listing are figures recorded from public review sources when the record was researched. They are a dated snapshot, not a live feed, and can differ from the figure a parent sees at the source today. A centre with no rating on record is shown as “No rating recorded”, not as zero stars.

The word beside a rating is a fixed label for the number: Excellent for 4.8 and above, Very Good for 4.0 and above, Good for 3.0 and above, Fair for 2.0 and above, and Poor below that. It is not Brightly’s opinion of the centre.

Review text is shown only where Brightly holds review content for that specific centre. For centres with a manually confirmed Google listing, a profile may request current reviews from Google when the page is viewed and display them with Google’s attribution, within a fixed request allowance. Where there is no review text for a centre, the profile says so and links to Google instead.

Brightly does not write or edit review text, and the directory has no feature for paying to add, remove or reorder reviews.

How results are ordered

Directory, guide and town pages list centres by displayed rating, highest first. Centres with the same rating, including those with no rating on record, are then ordered by Brightly’s internal record number. The “Highest-rated listings” on the homepage are the first three centres in that same order.

Because ordering depends on a recorded snapshot rating, a centre near the top is not necessarily a better fit than one further down. Parents should compare subject, level, location, class format and fees for their own child.

Filters narrow the list, for example by area, minimum displayed rating or published per-lesson price. They do not change the ordering rule.

Corrections, claims and removals

  • Report an error. Every centre profile has a “See something inaccurate?” link. You can also send a report here. Please say what is wrong and, if you can, where the correct information is published.
  • Claim a listing. Centre owners and authorised staff can claim their centre and submit current details.
  • Confirming who you are. Brightly may ask you to confirm your email address before a report or claim is passed to a reviewer. This protects centres from changes requested by someone else.
  • Review before change. A person at Brightly reviews each request. Listing facts are updated only when they can be supported by the centre or a published source.
  • Closures and removal requests. If a centre has closed, or an owner wants a listing reviewed for withdrawal, use the same report link and say so.

You can also write to brightlytutorzone@gmail.com.

Commercial relationships

Brightly is free for parents to browse. As at the review date above, the directory has no sponsored listings and no paid placement: a centre’s position is decided only by the ordering rule described on this page. Brightly is not owned by, and is not affiliated with, any centre listed in the directory.

If Brightly introduces sponsored or paid placements in future, they will be labelled where they appear and this page will be updated to explain what the label means.

Limits of this directory

  • The directory does not include every tuition centre in Singapore, and coverage differs between towns.
  • Records are checked on a date and can go out of date between checks.
  • Brightly does not inspect centres or assess teachers, class sizes or academic results.
  • Always confirm the programme, branch, teacher, timetable and complete current fees with the centre before enrolling.

For curriculum and examination information, use the Ministry of Education and the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board directly.
