About Candy Tree Language Centre 糖果树华文学堂 (Bukit Panjang)
Candy Tree Language Centre's Bukit Panjang branch helps children for whom Chinese is a struggle because English is spoken at home.
Candy Tree (糖果树华文学堂) is a Chinese specialist founded by Ms Law Khai Lee, known to students as Liu Laoshi. It began as her own Chinese classroom in Bukit Panjang, has taught primary pupils since 2017, and became Candy Tree Language Centre in 2020.
How the centre teaches
The centre uses a bottom-up approach: it rebuilds the basics first, from characters and hanyu pinyin, before moving on to longer answers and composition. Beyond vocabulary, teachers work on thinking skills and adapt their methods to each child. Parents' reviews, mostly in Chinese, describe children who once disliked Chinese becoming willing, even keen, and some moving on to Higher Chinese.
